This is the story of just ONE horse saved from slaughter. Horse #911. She was found in a “kill pen” . Slaughter is NOT the answer! Please concider a rescue horse, or donate to one of your local rescue horse places…they are always in need of donations for the “bail” , trailering costs, quarentine, vet bills, farrier bills… and “groceries”. One person CAN make a difference! This mare is sooooo sweet, I can’t believe someone “threw her away” , her life was doomed… headed for slaughter, THEN only hours before her “one way ticket”, she was saved! She is safe and getting vet care now. “Please don’t cry for the horses… love the ones that are here” … Thank you for watching… Horse #911 has a name … her new name is now “Curly” … enjoy. Whistle the Mini – We found him 4 years ago at the local horse auction, bought him, used him in my summer camp for 2 summers and then he went to be a pet with his owner. We also showed him in a hunter schooling show against the horses and got like 4th place… He had 3 correct gaits, is sound and has never foundered.

Horse Haven of Tennessee was founded in 1999 as a network of individuals that would open their facilities to house horses that the local Humane Societies and law enforcement had no place to put. Having a place to house horses, at no expense to the local counties, made local officials more willing to take complaints on equines more serious, and make an effort to do something about it. Over the years HHT realized the need for a facility to house the animals that come into our care in a more public type environment. Fosters are great for emergency and short term housing situations but we have found that until the judicial forces expedite the hearing of cases in their courts long term fostering does not work very well. This would also allow volunteers easy access to help with hands-on rehabilitation and evaluation of both the horse and potential adopter. 1999 – 2006 During the first six years of operation HHT used 47 acres of “free lease” land in South Knox County. Because this property had not been used in many years most of this acreage was overgrown with cedar trees, raspberry bushes and thick brush. Over many years this property was made usable after clearing in stages. Fencing and corrals were set up to best serve the animals we housed. Things we’ve learned along the way: We have learned that buying thin horses at the local auction houses does nothing but encourage the local trader to find more to bring to the sale. Instead we strive to get enforcement of the current

My partner is an artist who specialises in painting horses;and he and his brother Adrian who does the same frequently donate work for auction for Charities etc. Here the auction was for the Pentyrch who staged the race day at Bonvilston near Cardiff . All the work that goes into staging a point to point is voluntary and is done by the Hunt. They and the farmer also do all the Conservation work on the land and hedgerows which keeps the racecourse a sanctuary for wildlife throughout the year. People come together to stage the events which have trades stands and catering and bars; and it takes a phenomenal amount of work to keep the course watered in hot weather;maiantain the fences and rails and paddock erect marquees etc. So get involved if you can and perhaps help out as a sponsor at your local point to point! Here is the end of the auction; which was fiercely contested by two of the owners of the horses in last year’s race plus some collectors of David’s Art; and my job was to hold it aloft while people bid! The bidding started at £75 so I was there rather a long time as it went for £575 in the end! I couldn’t believe the excitement this generated – there must have been a thousand people around the Winner’s Enclosure to watch! Auctioneer was Richard Harris and the winning bidder was David Underwood owner of Esters Boy.

local horse auctions and Mennonites?

Question by raelee: Mennonites?
Theres this mennonite guy at the local horse auction that I go to and he’s really cute. How would I go about getting to know him. I mean its not the same as meeting other people because mennonites are so different from the rest of the community. Would he turn his nose up at me because I’m an outsider?? I’m not really sure how to approach him. I am interested in converting to become a mennonite. Are other mennonites allowed to take wives who have converted? Also, this mennonite boy looks about 20, am I too late or would you think he’s already been paired up? Do I have a chance with him?

I heard Mooninites were too much into vandalism and drugs. Plus, they give the finger a lot. Be careful.

The Village Inn in Aylsham, Norfolk

The Black Boys history can be traced back as far as 1471 when it was described as a messuage and cottage called the stonenhus. In the early 1650s it is claimed that a Richard Andrews developed the premises as an inn. He died following a fight with one of Oliver Cromwell’s men who was billeted there. Legend has it that he was buried in the grounds and his ghost has been seen on the premises.

Many famous people are recorded as having enjoyed the hospitality of the Black Boys over the years including Daniel Defoe, Horatio Nelson and Princess Victoria. The hotel features prominently in local history. In 1786 The Aylsham Association was founded and met there. In the 1800s it was used as a Magistrates Court and in 1814 a ball was held there to celebrate peace after the Napleonic Wars.

Stabling at the rear of the Hotel was used for changing the horses when travel was predominately by mail coaches. A major redevelopment of the premises took place in 1844 when it was bought by a James Spanton who sold off the entire contents at the local auction rooms. In addition to furniture and sundries – a post chaise, post chariot, a gig and six horses were included in the sale.

There are a couple of theories as to how the hotel acquired its name. Firstly it is suggested that it was named after King Charles II who was nicknamed The Black Boy because he had black hair and a swarthy complexion. Secondly, it may have a connection with the black boy slaves who were used as servants in local wealthy households in the 17th century. In 1815 John Crome of the Norwich School of Painters was commissioned to paint a sign for the inn which he based on a portrait of the King.

The Black Boys Hotel is now a Grade 2 listed building in recognition of its rich history and still presides over the bustling Market Place of Aylsham.

The Fort Worth Stockyards Company, Ft. Worth Texas Historical Marker

The Fort Worth Stock Yards Company was created in 1893, when Boston capitalist Greenlief W. Simpson led a group of investors in purchasing the Fort Worth Union Stock Yards. Under Simpson’s leadership, the Company earned the support of the Texas Cattle Raisers Association and lured the prominent meatpacking companies of Armour and Swift to open plants here. Publicity through the Company’s market newspaper and annual Fat Stock Show, both begun in 1896, resulted in a significant increase in the number of animals brought to market. The Stock Yards Co. built the area’s livestock-related facilities and had controlling interest in many North Fort Worth businesses and properties. The first five decades of the 20th Century were the most successful for the Fort Worth Stock Yards Co. During World War I, foreign governments purchased draft animals, making Fort Worth the largest horse and mule market in the world. In 1917, overall livestock market receipts reached 3,500,000 and in 1944, sales exceeded 5,000,000 head of livestock. However, by the 1950s, local auctions were drawing sellers away from this central market. Today the Fort Worth Stock Yards Co. continues as a significant part of the city’s unique heritage. How can I find local horse auctions?

Question by cherry tree: How can I find local horse auctions?
I have used various search engines in order to find horse auctions in my area (southern california) only to be disappointed. I am specifically looking for cheap OTTBs and since California is a large contributor to the racing industry, I find it hard to believe that they’re aren’t any :P ..

Best answer:

Answer by jayelle
i don’t know about horse auctions, but a friend of my moms goes to local (but small) horse races and watches them. once they’re finished she’ll go and find a horse that looses often and asks the racer or the owner how much they would sell it for.
she’s gotten 2 horses that never won races for free! they costed the owners more to keep then they made back in races, so they just gave him away. this happened twice and she finds pretty cheap horses all the time.
