Question by fantabulous!: Where do I find out about estate sales and public storage auctions?
I want to see what I can come across out of curiosity, and BTW , I live in Riverside County, CA near Palm Springs.

You ask to be put on the Estate Sale company mailing list. They get their customers that way. You can find them in the phonebook or at whitepages.com (free business phone numbers- i don’t work for them).

Public Storage owners must advertise in a local publication in order to legally auction the unpaid items. They usually post the ads in the cheapest papers. If you go to the local library, you will be able to find them. Once you know where to look, you just go back to those papers. The auctions are also posted at the PS websites. They cancel lots of auctions at the last minute so call first.

Question by Socks: where do you find cheap horses?
Where exactly can you find backyard ponies and horses for sale? I live in Ottawa, Ontario, and there never seems to be any cheap cheap horses for sale, ones that people are trying to get rid of. Where can I find one? Do you know of any websites that list cheap horses? (and dont say auction, because we dont have any around where I live.)

Check your closest storage places, and ask them when they hold their auctions. Lots of people clean out the good stuff, and leave the junk when they can’t afford the space anymore. If you already rent a storage space check the garbage cans before the 1st of the month for free thrown out treasures.

I saw this informercial about buying houses in government tax sales/auctions, but how do you find them. Apparently the previous owner foreclosed and did not pay property tax, so the gov’t then sells the house in an auction. But where are these so-called auctions?

look on line for the city and state you want…..say it’s dallas texas
You search for dallas texas court house…..then tax sales…that will tell you when the house list will appear in the local paper and when the sale is on the court house steps. do www.anywho.com and find the number for the court house you need…they will give you info on everything you need…and a short tutorial for what you need to do. you can buy outside of your area if you find some local person wishing to sponsor you.

As a private buyer, you’re going to be limited to government asset seizure, bank repossession, and municipal/governmental fleet liquidations. The kinds of wholesale auctions where dealers buy and sell their used vehicles are restricted to license dealers. Both eBay and copart.com allow private parties to participate in online bidding for used vehicles.

Your best bet will be to use one of the many sites like autotrader.com or cars.com to find used vehicle listings near you. You can search by any criteria including distance and price to find something that best suits your needs, and both include vehicles for sale by both dealers and private parties. To find local auctions near you, your best bet will be to use an internet search or contact the banks and governmental agencies directly to obtain their auction schedules and locations.

I would like to start collecting vintage jewelry and imagine that estate sales are a good place to start. How can I find out about estate sales & auctions, and are there any other good places to look for vintage jewelry? Thanks!

You can find out about estate sales and auctions in the classifieds section of your newspaper. Usually there is a section listing sales like garage sales and estate sales and often auctions will advertise here. You can also look in your phone book for auction houses or antique stores in the area. Besides being a good place for you to look for vintage jewelry, antique stores usually keep up to date on any auctions or big estate sales that will be coming up, and if the shop keeper is knowledgeable about jewelery, they may be able to tell you which auctions are really worth your time.

Another really good place to find vintage jewelry that you didn’t mention in your post is thrift stores and pawn shops. Stores like Goodwill can sometimes have some good stuff, but you have to make sure you are very knowledgeable about what you are looking for to spot reproductions in any of the places I mentioned as the people selling the pieces will probably not know the difference like an antique dealer at an auction or estate sale will.

I have used various search engines in order to find horse auctions in my area (southern california) only to be disappointed. I am specifically looking for cheap OTTBs and since California is a large contributor to the racing industry, I find it hard to believe that they’re aren’t any ..

i don’t know about horse auctions, but a friend of my moms goes to local (but small) horse races and watches them. once they’re finished she’ll go and find a horse that looses often and asks the racer or the owner how much they would sell it for.
she’s gotten 2 horses that never won races for free! they costed the owners more to keep then they made back in races, so they just gave him away. this happened twice and she finds pretty cheap horses all the time.

Question by Reality.: Where can I find rental car auctions?
Can anyone tell me where I can find the lists, times and locations of rental car auctions? I would like to buy a used rental car, but have only been able to locate the Enterprise rental car sales site and they don’t have the vehicle that I am looking for.
Apparently I was laboring under the misconception that these places offered actual auctions as opposed to retail sales. From what I’ve seen so far, they offer nothing different than any other used car dealers, meaning retail. Being an educated consumer is a lesson in frustration. Argh!

Each company holds its own auctions, so you’ll need to contact each one to find out when they hold their auctions.
There may be some information on their websites – and they all have them – Avis, Hertz, Budget – but, for better local information, telephone or e-mail your local region manager. They are usualy listed either on the website or in your local Yellow Pages.
Or call your local or 800 number to find out who you should speak with.

Question by Elegance U: where can I find Iists of government land auctions for free?
I know these lists are free but the internet is flooded with scam government auction lists sites. I think the sites that have the government auction lists are listed by state and they tell what properties are for sale and what time the auction begins, etc. Can someone help?

I’m not sure about the auction but allot of land is controlled by the BLM (bureau of land management)
